Black Tie Kentucky Derby Engagement Photos

With the big weekend coming up, we have a special Kentucky Derby engagement session on our wedding blog today! The impossibly beautiful couple, Haley and Skyler, were dressed to the nines for the photos, making for an incredibly characterized shoot. We love it! The sequins, the fur, the velvet, oh my! Even their poses were in character! A classic car and deserted race track created the perfect backdrop for this glam love story. Here is how it all played out from the Bride-to-be.

I had dropped several hints to my then boyfriend about hiring a photographer for our engagement so we didn’t have to do engagement photos. He’s not the biggest fan of taking pictures like most men, so he took my advice and found someone online for when he popped the question. Unfortunately, the photographer cancelled at the last minute, but he proposed anyway at our favorite restaurant downtown in Nashville, TN called Merchants… it was perfect!

I’m a fashion stylist, so I envisioned our engagement photos from an editorial standpoint and wanted to tell a story. You only get to work with an amazing photographer for these photos once, so you might as well go all out glam! I rented a fabulous Zac Posen sequin gown from Rent The Runway, and my husband found a great velvet jacket at Macys to wear with his favorite velvet smoking slippers. The day of our session ended up being extremely cold, so my mother-in-law loaned me her incredible mink coat. The photos were taken at one of mine and Skyler’s favorite places in the town that we grew up and turned out to be everything I had imagined and more!
