This jade-green Malibu wedding on our blog today is a stunner.. as are the bride and groom. With whimsical touches and simple, comfortable, and beautiful decor, the day was all about them two. Karson Butler Events achieved their special vision, Studio EMP captured it exquisitely, and the bride told us all about ti!
We wanted our wedding to be very relaxed and peaceful which is why we picked a venue that was already beautiful on its own surrounded by vineyards, cacti, and a view of the ocean. It was the first place we looked at in Malibu and an Airbnb rental. When we got up the canyon we looked at each other and knew it was where we wanted to get married and bring our families together. We were able to rent it for the whole weekend which made it great place for everyone to meet and spend time together before the wedding.
As far as the look, we really tried to go for something minimalistic and rustic. We also wanted everything to have a bit of our personality in it. We had some of our favorite games sitting out for guests to play and asked our family to sign Jenga pieces instead of a book.
I found my dress at Nicole Miller in Beverly Hills. The relaxed fabric fell in the right places and the lace details added a unique twist to the waist and back. It was quirky and absolutely beautiful. When I got depressed during wedding planning, my roommate recommended that I put the dress on. I immediately snapped out of it and walked in circles in front of a mirror for about 15 minutes saying: “Do you love it? I love it” like a teenager without realizing that my roommate had tried to answer my question more than three times before giving up on giving me a response.
We nixed formal flowers and instead I picked out a bunch of flowers I liked at the flower market in LA the day before with one of my best friends. We had a blast running around bundling up our favorite wild flowers. Later that day, my aunts and grandparents sat around a table laughing and making bouquets for all the girls. They were big, funky and beautiful. My friend Lauren used the remaining flowers to whip up a flower crown to go with my veil the morning of my wedding. It was lovely, homemade and everything I wanted.
Karson Bulter Events and
Found Rentals worked together to turn our ceremony and reception into a whimsical party in the woods with succulents, cacti, candles and lanterns livening up the tables and lounge areas for our friends. The wood Harlem Auditorium chairs for the ceremony were breathtaking (and I don’t say that about chairs, generally :). I also loved the look of the mix and matched tables with Sutter Tolex Chairs and vintage colored glassware from
Dish Wish displayed above the bar. Our family strung Edison bulbs above it all. It was perfect.
