We have a place reserved in our heart for gold sequin dresses and woodland scenes, so when this fall engagement shoot, packed with a punch of glitz, came our way, we about keeled over. Katherine Dalton Photography did an amazing job of creating an unexpected glamorous, mysterious, vibe with this one, and we love it!
Katherine says, As a wedding photographer, I feel engagement photos can get VERY repetitive. So I decided to style my dream engagement shoot with a real couple (who is getting married this fall!). I picked nearly every detail and it all came together perfectly – the glittery gold dress and the fluffy white jacket brought so much texture that my photographer eyes nearly exploded with joy. I love when a man wears floral, and I found the perfect dark floral necktie to match his burgundy button down. I paired these dressy items with some edgy accessories: combat boots and a trendy hat for the lady (Faith), brown boots and a beanie for the man (Alex), and one simple cuff bracelet for jewelry. We did some bold smokey eyes on Faith but kept her beautiful black hair wavy and relaxed. I drove with them 3 hours to the mountains of Asheville to catch the peak fall colors, and MAN! did those trees put on a show for us. All the colors and textures and backdrop came together perfectly and I was practically beside myself during the shoot. I did all this to prove a point – engagement photos don’t HAVE to be boring. A bride and groom only get to do them once, so they should live it up and go big (or go home). I love experimenting and taking risks with my clients, and Faith had no problem climbing a mountain in a gold sequined dress. I hope this shoot can inspire future brides/photo subjects to take high style ANYWHERE, to be adventurous with their shoots, and to trust their photographers who have crazy ideas. I hope this can also inspire other creatives to do something for the hell of it, something that makes their hearts sing, because this sure was good for my creative spirit.
