Today we are featuring The Bachelorette’s Trista and Ryan Sutter’s Anniversary! For those of you who may not know, Trista became a well known name as the first ever Bachelorette vying for love on the ABC’s The Bachelor spin off. America got to watch as she fell in love with Ryan, a handsome firefighter who would become the love of her life. On this day 7 years ago our beloved Trista Rehn married Ryan Sutter, her prince charming. Lucky for us the couple not only allowed us to be a part of their courtship, we also got to be a part of their wedding day which aired live. Many of us watched in awe at all the gorgeous details Mindy Weiss & crew put together! In honor of their anniversary we have both Trista and Mindy with us to answer some questions about what it was like planning a wedding for TV, their favorite moments of the day and what they’re up to 7 years later.

Congrats to Trista & Ryan, Be Inspired PR wishes you a lifetime of happiness!
Wedding planning is so stressful by itself, what was it like planning a wedding that was going to be on national TV?
Everyone thinks that adding the aspect of a TV show into the mix would increase the level of stress for me, but in reality, it did the opposite. I not only had an endless amount of help from the producers, but had the best of the best working with me to make my dreams come true, including Mindy Weiss, who was like a big sister. She’s the best and make it anything but stressful. It was a dream come true.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Definitely the moment that Ryan surprised me for our first dance. I LOVE surprises, but it wasn’t just about the surprise. He managed to have Brad Paisley record what had been written as a poem to me from our first date. It was incredibly romantic and thoughtful and truly touched my heart.
What did you envision for your wedding day?
I envisioned a fairy tale, and that is definitely what I got! 🙂
Thirty thousand roses! Have you always been a flower lover?
I have always loved flowers. Did I ever think I’d have that many at my wedding…NO WAY! Did I think they were gorgeous…most definitely!
If you could do it all over again would you keep the TV wedding or would you do something more private?
That’s a very good question and some days I’d say keep it private, but overall, it was truly the best day of my life before my children were born and other than doing it in a gorgeous cathedral, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love the fact that we could share it with America…and that we were able to not burden our parents with anything at all, financially. Plus, our friends and family got to live the fairy tale with us, so it was all worth it in the end.
Most reality couples never make it to the altar, what’s made you and Ryan different?
I have no idea why others don’t make it, but what I do know is that Ryan and I are committed, in love, honest, and really enjoy each other’s company. Relationships are hard work…however you meet. It doesn’t matter if it’s on TV or in a bar. You have to put the work in…and be compatible, to reap the benefits. We do, and we are.
For some of our fave reality tv couples that are still together and haven’t decided to take the leap into marriage, (like Tenley and Kiptyn and Ali and Roberto) would there be anything you want to say to them?
Don’t let anyone tell you what is best for you. If you are ready, you’ll know. If you need a little help deciding…I’m always here to talk. 🙂
Do you have any special plans for your wedding anniversary?
Unfortunately, not this year. With 2 kids and just returning from a short family trip, it will be all about being home and being together.
What are you and Ryan up to these days?
Life is busy these days. I am a stay-at-home-and-work mom trying to juggle jobs working with different companies along with designing my own collections with a company called My Vintage Baby. Ryan works as a Lieutenant at the Vail Fire Station and just finished a HUGE accomplishment by raising over $100,000 through doing 10 endurance races this year.
I know you’re working a lot with animal welfare campaigns, can you tell us what you’re doing for that and why it’s so important?
I am actually working with Purina to spread the word about their Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart campaign. They generously donated $150,000 to 18 animal welfare organizations around the country in the hopes of raising awareness for all the good that they do and all the joy that animals bring into our lives. As a lifetime pet owner and lover, I know that first hand.
Most of you know Mindy Weiss, but for those of you who don’t she is an AMAZING planner and one of the most respected members of the wedding industry (not to mention one of the sweetest!). She had the opportunity to plan Trista and Ryan’s wedding and shared with us a little bit of what that experience was like. Thanks Mindy! xo
What was it like planning your first televised wedding? Was there added stresses because of that?
It was an awesome experience… because i was able to see what goes on during a filmed production…I really think we helped the production a lot because we had so much decor and things at their fingertips..there really wasnt too much stress …trista told them they could not stop the ceremony …so there were not any weird moments…
What was unique about Ryan and Trista’s wedding?
We introduced so many trends! – the ribbon wands, the varigated pink chair covers, the emphasis on pink. The pink was definitely the talk of the tv world and it was the advertised “High end Wedding” that actually was!
What was it like working with Trista & Ryan?
well i was such a huge fan of the show that when they called i was thrilled!…they are so in love!!! a pleasure, funny, appreciative…loved planning meeting with them!
How did you get involved in this project?
I got a call and an interview, and yay they choose me!
What was your main design focus for the wedding? Was it her color choice?
Trista had so much input.. but romantic and traditional and pink! Ryan was a great sport! I wish the network would have shown more of the cocktails and reception, Mark from Marks Garden did an amazing job!
Do you feel a lot of pressure when you’re working with publically known clients as millions of people are going to be looking at your work?
Yes a bit, only because on tv it sometimes doesnt come off the way it looks in person, and often productions like the to find drama and I was very fortunate that there wasn’t any at the wedding.
Are there any words you want to share with Trista and Ryan for their 7th wedding anniversary?
I’m so thankful Trista and Ryan that I was part of your memories! And I’m even more thankful that we are still in touch with each other after 7 years! You two are precious and add in Max and Blakesley… and well what can i say the Sutters are the fabulous four!!!!
