A back alley seemed to be the perfect space for this couple’s downtown Seattle wedding, and as unorthodox as it sounds, we absolutely love it! The narrow, eclectic space needed little decor with the pretty brick buildings acting as a backdrop. The bride’s 2-piece wedding gown was equally non-traditional and beautiful! We think you’ll fall in love with this blush beauty like we did, so without further ado, here’s a word from the bride and groom!
We were married in Nord Alley in Pioneer Square on August 8th, 2014. The disbelief expressed by our families was enough reason to get excited about the unique venue, but really we picked the space because it reminded us of the beautiful way old and new coexists in the city, and we wanted our guests to be excited about this too. It was like a reverse gothic cathedral–tall, narrow, magically lit–with the noise and activity of the city as our choir.
After a brief, cordial ceremony, officiated by our brother-in-law Bryan, we invited our guests to join us for cocktails, dinner, donuts, and dancing at Axis Pioneer Square, a repurposed industrial event space adjacent to the alley.
We are both designers, so we saw the wedding as a project, taking every opportunity to add as many special details as we could handle. We made temporary tattoos, handstitched sketchbooks as favors, and we even had a neon sign of our initials made and mounted in the space. Our friends and family also contributed special arts and crafts to the wedding as well: We had a groomsman DJ spinning remixes of our favorite songs, our seamstress mothers made linens that matched our invitations, and our brother-in-law concocted two special brews for the reception, the “Kyle” Imperial IPA, and the “Tiff” Belgian Wheat.
We have incredibly fond memories of our night. Celebrating with our families, our Seattle friends, and our New York friends all in one place meant so much to us. There really wasn’t enough time to soak it all in. We wish we could go back and enjoy it in slow motion.
