This take on your favorite ponytail on our style blog may just outshine that sparkly number you have planned for New Year’s Eve ;). Erica from 10.11 Makeup (our go-to beauty expert) brought us this DIY New Year’s Eve Hair style to make getting ready for your evening all the easier! In a few simple steps this fancy topsy tail will be done and ready to last the whole night through! So ring in the new year with a new do! And if a ponytail isn’t your thing, this top knot is just as easy!
Step 1: Gather the hair around the crown of your head (leaving the sides of your hair out) and secure, centered, on back of your head. You can back comb/ tease the underside of the hair prior to gathering in order to give your hair a little more volume. Secure the hair by making an ‘x’ with the bobby pins.
Step 2: Take one side of the hair you left out, drawing it back and across to the opposite side in order to hide the previously pinned hair. Secure by tucking a pin in the opposite direction that you just directed the hair. Repeat on the opposite side.
Step 3: Gather the remaining hair, below your pinned section, and loosely secure with a hair tie.
Step 4: Gently pull the hair tie down, allowing there to be a space for you to separate the hair above the tie. Separate the hair evenly, and flip the ponytail up and through the space you have created.
Step 5: To help secure, separate the hair in the ponytails evenly and tug on the hair in opposite directions to tighten the ponytail.
Step 6: For a more finished look, take a small section of the top pony tail, wrap it around the hair tie and secure the end with a bobby pin.
Step 7: Spray a little texture spray or finishing spray.
