Full of DIY projects and color, this geometric nursery has quickly become one of our favorites! It’s perfect for the adventure seeking little boy. Mom, Brittany, both designed & captured her son’s space in such a fun & creative way (she’s the photographer behind the lens at Reality & Retrospect). Hear from her on how it came about…
It took me a while to figure out what direction I wanted to go with my son’s nursery. When I first got pregnant I assumed I was having a girl, and started buying lots of things for the nursery pretending they were gender neutral. This included a vintage pink chair, the elephant head that is on the wall, and a neon colored piece of art. Once I found out it was a boy I realized that everything I had wouldn’t really work. Finally when I was about 7 months pregnant I got my act together and figured out what I wanted. I loved the cribs with colored slats, but didn’t want to pay close to $1000 for one. I got an IKEA crib and hand painted the slats (which was a 3 day nightmare but so worth it:). Then I decided to do a color blocked wall and included copper accents with the hanging clothes rack and the curtain rods. I didn’t love any of the typical mobiles so I used some Bright Lab Lights with a copper arm that I made. For the changing table I used lockers that were in my husband’s grandpa’s garage filled with sawdust and bullets. We topped it with an IKEA desk top and changing pad. I recently updated the room with the Rugs USA rug which is so soft. I added a little table and chair for Jay to play at. I switched out the shelf decor with some Minted artwork.
