Karena and Katrina are the amazing ladies behind one of our favorite fitness brands…Tone it Up! Based right here with us in Manhattan Beach, CA, the girls are the real deal! They have been best friends and business partners for years and are one of the powerhouse duos in the health and fitness circles. Karena and Katrina provide their subscribers with workouts including YouTube videos as well as nutrition plans for their members that take the grudge work out of eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Now that they have their very own reality show on Bravo, Toned Up, people get to see what their day to day life looks like and how much fun they really are. We caught up with them and tried our best to steal all of their beauty secrets…
So many people hate the idea of exercising and fitness…what makes you enjoy it so much?
We love the way that working out makes us feel. We never regret a workout and it’s a stress reliever and it empowers us to be better in everything else that we pursue. We also like to make fitness fun! If someone doesn’t like to run… we don’t make them run! It’s important to find something that you do like… which involves trying new things. You may just discover that you love Soul Cycle, yoga or toning!
What’s your one guilty pleasure when it comes to food?
Karena: I love a cheese plate and wine!
Katrina: I love chocolate and wine!
What’s your advice to a bride-to-be looking to get in shape for her wedding?
One day you’ll forget all the tiny details; which napkins you chose or the wine glasses… but you’ll never forget how you felt. Take care of you and your health because it’s the most magical day of your life filled with love and happiness. How long does it usually take to see results from consistent working out and eating right? How do you stay motivated?
Some results happen right away!!! Immediately your mood will be better, your lungs will be ready for your next workout, you’ll sleep better, you’ll be glowing and you’ll feel yourself with healthier foods. Studies show that when you exercise, you’re more aware of how you treat your body the other 23 hours a day. Within a couple weeks of our workouts and our Bridal Nutrition Plan, you’ll feel more energized, more toned and ready to take on whatever comes your way! Especially that dress fitting!
How can a mommy-to-be keep up her workout routine and stay fit throughout her pregnancy?
We love working with moms!! Mostly because of the joy they bring to their workout and eating. They know it’s not just about them anymore. They’re working out and eating healthy to create a new life. Our advice is to do toning, light cardio and nothing supine (on your back). Always ask your physician what they recommend for you and your target heart rate. This is really important to know so you can always exercise safely.
Most “bang for your buck” workout move:
Oo this is a tough one!! There’s too many amazing moves that work everything… we say burpees, but we know those aren’t fun. We love this Total Body Bliss Workout!
Favorite pre-workout snack:
We love having a piece of fruit- nothing too heavy like a banana or some Perfect Fit Protein shaken with almond milk. We also love coconut water during our workouts.

Partition by Beyonce!! We actually just made an awesome mix with over 50 songs!
