Thanksgiving is only two sleeps away! Whether you’re celebrating with friends on the actual day, or planning a post-holiday meal with them, these tips will ensure there is no added stress! Throw a last minute Friendsgiving (and pull it off!) with help from Laura Hooper Calligraphy. Here, Laura shares her no-fail party options for both food and decor! And don’t forget the drinks! 😉
Having an extra Thanksgiving with your friends can be a fun way to kick off the holiday season, and there’s no reason why you can’t make it extra special with a few easy {and inexpensive!} touches. Instead of going for a full Thanksgiving feast, you can go with a robust wine and cheese display & throw in some desserts to really round things out.
For this party spread, most everything came from the grocery store except for some simple personal touches like hand-lettered white pumpkins,
gold foiled napkins, and blooms from my personal garden {Trader Joe’s and other store-bought stems will do the trick too if you don’t have any foliage to forage!}.
Adding these simple touches to fancy things up a bit can make a big impact and help the whole display feel a bit more personal and well thought out for your guests. A good color scheme can also help your store-bought food items seem put together and purposeful. We went with a jewel-toned fall theme in purples, reds, creams, greens, and gold.
Here’s what we picked up from the grocery store for this Fall Fête:
- Figs, fig jam, grapes
- A simple white cake that we spruced up with figs and rosemary
- Brie, manchego & gouda cheeses
- Multigrain crackers
- Marcona almonds
- Pumpkin pie & pecan pie
- A few bottles of red wine
If you’re going potluck style, as many Friendsgiving celebrations do, your guests could add on a variety of meats, perhaps antipasti goodies and even some cozy Fall veggies such as Brussels sprouts or cauliflower. Offering an assortment of typical “side” items can make for a really fun, but super easy, celebration.

Everything about this is stunning!
