This holiday home comes complete with a DIY Advent Calendar, made by none other than the homeowner and DIY maven herself, Megan of The Things She Sees. Her blog is full of gorgeous home inspiration and fun DIY ideas, so we’re happy to have her share some with us on our lifestyle blog today! She took her cute little Indiana cottage from everyday lovely to holiday happy with a few garlands, some festive quotes, and a glittering gold Christmas tree.
Megan decorated with help from all of the typical favorites (target, homegoods, pb, ikea, ETC) but included many unique finds as well from thrift stores (even some from goodwill!), etsy, and antique stores. See how she pulled it all together in this space! Also, here’s a how-to on her special take on the Advent Calendar and a little of her inspiration behind it:
Through all of the craziness of the holidays (one can get blinded by the sparkly party dresses and tasty peppermint treats!), it is hard to remember what the holiday season is truly all about. What a perfect way to get your DIY fix and force yourself and loved ones to take a moment: make an Advent Calendar! What to put inside: tasty treats, a good deed for the day, a reminder of a great memory, or a fun activity.
What You Need:
Mini kraft paper envelopes
Gold stamp pad
Festive stamp
Craft ribbon
Hang tags
Paperclips or some type of clip
White rope
Directions:
1. Simply decorate your little envelopes! I used a gorgeous gold stag stamp, which I think turned out so well. You can easily adorn your envelopes with gold dots, practice a little calligraphy, or use some glitter washi tape!
2. See? You’re almost done! Just number your tags, tie on some craft ribbon, and call it a day!
3. Attach three pieces of “rope ribbon”, or regular ribbon or whatever you find, to the wall and clip away. I originally wanted this project to look a little less GLAM and a little more rustic, so I planned to use good ole paper clips. However, in my search for paper clips, I came across these adorable glitter pins- couldn’t pass them up!
Ooh I love this! Making this as a Christmas craft!
Love all her subtle decor! The holidays make homes all the more beautiful!
Her home is so festive, but so classy!!! Love all of the white and natural brown
Thanks again for the feature IBT team! xo
