Bold prints, vivid colors, geometric patterns, and international accent pieces, Jennifer Mehditash uses it all, without fear. She’s giving us tips on our lifestyle blog today on how to incorporate color and pattern into your home decor. If you are hesitant to try out such a bold aesthetic, just take a peak at how fabulous this home turned out and you will change your mind!
I am known for my use of color and pattern. Influenced by having been blessed to live in so many different countries I enjoy bringing those fearless and unexpected combinations into every one of my designs.
Many of my clients ask me to come back over time to update parts of their home because their family has grown in size or evolved. Rooms require change in order to adapt to their new lifestyle requirements and needs. The key is to design a space that is flexible and can be easily adapted.
1. Furniture and accessories should all be pieces you love and that uniquely acquire a space in a room. Choose pieces that not only function with your needs but also reflect you.
2. Whether designing one room or an entire house, I always ask my clients to allow me to think of the house as a whole. I want the final result to feel like there is a continuous flow of thought, whether it be through the choices of color or style. Each room can shift and change because the entire design reflects them and their family. Therefore if a desk needs to be moved to make room for the new baby, it will always feel like it has a place in any room of the house and not like an afterthought.
Don’t forget to think of the details. The lucite curtain rods with silver rings were the perfect choice for these windows, adding that perfect contrast against the strong geometric pattern on our drapery fabric against the white walls.
Colorful design can be achieved with white walls! In this open Living / Dining / Kitchen combination we were able to introduce colors through some key furniture pieces and fabrics. This bright tangerine lacquered sideboard is one of our favorite pieces, and works like a dream in this room.
