We are in full fall mode over here (so what if it’s a week early!) and busy dreaming up what to wear, do, and eat! What better place to start than with breakfast? A baked chai donut sounds like the perfect treat to kick off autumn, don’t you think? Hence, this Dona Chai donut recipe on our lifestyle blog today! The dreamy concoction will suit you and your hot cup of coffee, or tea, or cider perfectly. Anyone else envisioning an idyllic fall morning? Here’s how you make them:
Ingredients (Yields 6 doughnuts)
For the donuts:
1 c flour
½ c Dona Chai
⅓ brown sugar
1 t baking powder
½ salt
3 T melted butter
1 egg
For the coating:
3 T melted butter
½ sugar
2 T cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a donut pan and set aside.
Next, in a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine Dona Chai, egg and melted butter. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk until just combined. Pour the batter into a large Ziploc bag and then snip a triangle off of one corner. Pipe the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each mold until almost full. Bake the donuts for about 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Lastly, turn out onto a cooling rack and let cool completely.
Meanwhile, make the topping. Place melted butter in a bowl. Then, in a separate bowl, mix together cinnamon and sugar. Once cooled, quickly dip each doughnut in butter mixture and lightly coat in the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Finally, serve (best warm :)).
