It should come as no surprise that when an event planner gets to celebrate their little ones birthday’s that it is going to be an epic day. Kelsey Dulac with Back Bay Bride proved just that when she decided to throw her son a van life first birthday party. The fete was complete with a vintage van, cascading baby blue balloons, and the sweetest modern details. We are filing this van life first birthday party under the most creative kids party theme we have seen yet – enjoy!
The mom and event planner, Kelsey Dulac with Back Bay Brides shares,
After spending the first year of our son’s life in quarantine, I knew we had to do something special to celebrate his first birthday. As a wedding and event planner, I joke that parties are my love language and having this chance to celebrate our sweet boy was such a bright light!
Our son’s name is Van so I decided on a Van Life theme. I figured I could get away with a play on his name for his very first birthday. Of course, given the current environment we had to get creative on celebrating safely. A drive way, drive by style event was the best option for us and leant itself well to the Van Life theme!
After searching for #vanlife inspo I immediately realized the party wouldn’t be complete without a literal van as our backdrop. Luckily, I found the perfect partner in Vintage Van Rentals and was able to feature this 90’s VW Vanagon as our centerpiece. Tenderwolf Studios nailed the sage and mint green balloon garland and the rest of the vignette came together with furniture and décor items I had around the house and a couple of items from One Stop Event Rentals. I worked with POPPYjack Shop and House of Rounds on the wooden details and signage and highlighted milestones from his first year by repurposing our monthly markers by The White Loft. Guests were greeted with custom cookies by A Little Suga and individual lunch boxes with sandwiches and chips for the road. And after the celebration we set Van up in the dining room for his little cake smash and dessert with family. So grateful my friend Amanda of The Libbys Photo & Films captured this special day for us!
This first year was nothing like what we expected, but having so much time at home to soak up with our little guy has been the silver lining. It was so much fun to get creative and share this milestone safely with friends and family!
