What more could a little girl want for her birthday than a day filled with balloons, teepees, and a pink ombre cake?! The babe had one wonderful unicorn first birthday party on our baby blog today designed by her mamma! She pulled everything off to a T-eepee (we couldn’t resist :), and even shows us how to mimic her DIYs on The Love Designed Life!
When I started planning my daughter’s first birthday party, I only knew I wanted the colors mint, white, gold and blush. At first, I thought we would just stick to those colors and keep it very mod. But then I started seeing a lot of unicorn and rainbow themes around pinterest, etc. and I thought, why not combine the subtle notion of a unicorn into the ultra-girly color scheme I already had going?
I wanted the beautiful pinterest-worthy party, but needed to stay on budget. With this in mind, I had a LOT of DIY projects. Probably the biggest of these was the paper mache unicorn bust, but I also made the tissue tassel garlands, the cake topper banner, the pinata (with a kit) and all the floral arrangements, including the wreath around the unicorn bust. The large round balloons I ordered on Amazon and had them filled just before at a local party store. My husband also helped me make her teepee as a birthday gift from the two of us.
I have a friend who bakes just for fun, so I challenged her with a very specific idea I had for a round, ombre naked cake. Extra challenge: it had to be vegan and gluten-free to meet all the dietary restrictions of my family. Boy did she deliver! Not only was it gorgeous, but it tasted fantastic as well!
I love finding and supporting small shops through Instagram. Not only was Alessandra’s entire birthday outfit found through some of these small shops, but the party favors were as well! We chose custom mint and gold dragon masks for the boys and gold unicorns with tulle tales for the girls.
