It’s almost impossible to choose a favorite thing about fall, but high on our list are their beautiful colors that come with the change of the season! Devyn and Kyle’s gorgeous October wedding was full of the prettiest autumnal shades of terracotta, which perfectly balanced their other colors like dusty blue and blush pink. Read on to see how this duo embraced fall’s beauty in Alabama with their Autumnal Wedding!
How was your wedding venue and aesthetic chosen?
“Kyle and I’s biggest priorities when choosing a venue was something open and bright that showcased the beautiful fall season and a location where the wedding party and immediate family could stay on the property together for the weekend. I searched through just about every single venue in the state of Alabama and we visited maybe 10. Otter Creek was high on our list from the beginning. While being a stunning venue at its base level it also was the perfect setting to be personalized into any vision I could possibly come up with. The long aisle was one of my favorite parts, I loved the drama it added to the ceremony. Also the owners, Jane and her husband were so amazing to meet with and Kyle and I both felt so connected to them from the beginning we just knew it felt like the right spot for us.”
“I knew I wanted fall colors but still wanted the light, right and airy look. I wanted a colorful but classic elegance. We knew that Otter Creek, while relatively rustic at its base level, was easily elevated to rustic elegance with just a few simple additions and that was the perfect fit for us.”
What inspired your wedding design?
“ I spent months deciding on bridesmaid dress colors. When I finally decided to do a mixture of colors and fabrics I found my inspiration. Bright, light, airy and still fall colors. Colorful but still elegant. I had very little specifics decided for design except for my color palette. I chose vendors who were amazing at their jobs and I gave them a very general direction, almost only my color palette, and then I let the talented experts do their job and they created the most magical designs that I ever could have dreamed of. I was firmly of the mindset that I would hire the best people available that matched my mindset and whose work I enjoyed, and just let them do their jobs. Wedding vendors are creative people, creative people do their best jobs when they are allowed the freedom to use their minds to create without excessive restrictions.”
Tell us a little bit about your story!
“Kyle and I met on Bumble, the dating app! We actually met in person the same day we matched on the app, which I had never done ever! He jokingly asked me if I wanted to go to Vegas and get married right then and there on our first date. Halfway through that first date/meeting, he asked me if he could take me on a “real” date the next day. I said yes, even though I had to cancel a date with a different person to go. He drove an hour home that night at 3am just to turn around and drive back the next day to take me to dinner.”
The bride talks wedding day details,
“My two oldest nephews walked me down the aisle, they were 8 and 7 at the time. Our officiant was my best friend since childhood’s dad, he was always like a dad to me. He scripted the ceremony with minimal input from us and it was perfect. Immediately following the ceremony Kyle and I had a private first dance with our string quartet which was the scene our AMAZING wedding painter Maggie, painted. She also added our dogs to it afterwards.”
The bride continues,
“During the reception we had custom cups from Houndstooth Sports Bar, where we had our first date. Our Koozies had our dogs on them! We did a mother daughter dance and my mom surprised me with a custom song that was so very sweet and emotional. My mom also surprised me with a dance with all of the important men in my life. Nephews included. Our live wedding painter was present throughout the reception working on our painting in person! Our phenomenal DJ coordinated our last song/dance to Taylor Swift’s Love Story. I am a HUGE Taylor Swift fan, with all our friends and family circled around us with their phone lights out. All of us singing, dancing, and having the absolute best time. It was absolutely one of my favorite moments from the reception. Kyle’s main request was the getaway car which made for such a fun exit after the cold sparks, with the perfect background music of Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift, and was a beautiful attraction for guests.”
The bride shares her favorite details,
“ALL of the work done by Lauren with the florals. I was and still am so obsessed with Lauren’s work and I gave her so much free reign because I love her creativity and the absolute masterpiece that she and Rebecca created. Everybody knew how excited I was to get down to the ceremony space to see it!”
