Allow us to indulge you in our ideal weekend scenario: somewhere in the mountains, sipping on prosecco–fireside, with the scent of pine needles filling the air. A dream-turned-reality just a few hours drive from Los Angeles, where SoCal’s most stylish cabin getaway sits tucked away on Big Bear Mountain. Meet our latest interior design find and go-to stay: Noble + Proper.
This collection of 8 luxury vacation lodges feels like a sense of familiarity with a modern twist, where kitschy meets timeless meets weekend-ing made perfect. Spearheaded by Sara of Handsome Salt, each cabin within the Noble + Proper community is themed after a beloved family member, curated with memories from the past, allowing their legacy to live on through each design.
The Stay
As I punched in the key-code to my basecamp for the weekend, the door clicked open and Elfriede’s Haus welcomed me with the sound of ambient chillwave music + a smell so incredible I could swim in it for days. While the pictures of this property won me over from the start, my expectations were blown out of the water from my first step through the door. It was love at first sight.
The space was filled with unique pieces of furniture that, while mismatched, seemed to have been destined to go together. Different patterns and textiles gave this sense of warmth and comfort, while little heirlooms offered a glimpse into the history behind Elfriede’s Haus. It was as if the house were sharing its story through the trinkets and treasures that lined its shelves. A perfectly lived-in sofa was where I found myself perched most of my weekend. The sofa was situated next to the fireplace and accompanied by a smart Frame TV that doubled as a work of art.
Separation was made between the living room and kitchen, where a slew of darling checkered tiles lined the floor of the quaint kitchenette space. It had everything I needed for some simple mountain meals and delicious coffee in the morning.
Upstairs was something of wallpaper heaven. Two spacious bedrooms were styled with tasteful accessories. Soft linens complimented the ornate wallpaper selections that lined each room, including the washroom.
The Amenities
The communal space on the property had to have been another favorite part about my stay. It consisted of several picnic tables, horseshoes, a BBQ and even a hammock to lounge in. Noble + Proper felt like its own community of like-minded travelers. Around dusk, neighboring guests began making it onto their patios. People congregate to enjoy proper Après-ski, share food and watch the sunset. Then, everyone slips into their abode for warm refuge against the cool night air. It felt like bliss.
The Location
As if it couldn’t get any better, Noble + Proper sits within the heart of Big Bear. It’s just a short walk or quick bike ride to The Village. In the village, you’ll find a slew of gift shops, diners and even a movie theater. The hospitality team set our weekend up perfectly. They sent us a guide on the best places around town to eat, drink & be merry. In the warmer months, guests of Noble + Proper also have access to free bike rentals to explore the dreamy neighborhood.
On top of all that, we were less than a 15 minute drive to the shores of Big Bear Lake. In the summer months, you can rent a boat or pontoon and enjoy the waters while basking in the sun.
Somehow, that 3 day escape to SoCal’s most stylish cabin getaway went by far too quickly. I’m already marking my calendar for the next visit I’ll be making to Noble + Proper! Looking for more mountain escapes to add to your bucket-list? Read up on more here!
