Noah’s mom, Lindsay Surowitz from Weeknight Bite shares:
The inspiration for Noah’s nursery started with his world map wallpaper. My husband loves maps, so I thought it would be a fun element to bring into the nursery. I loved that this one felt whimsical and worldly with all the animals, planes, and hot air balloons setting the tone for a playful space. From the statement wallpaper we moved onto a selection of furniture, soft goods and decorative bits that really drove home the adventure theme. To help me create a cohesive, cozy, and wanderlust vibe, I enlisted the help of one of my best friends, Sierra Muller, who also happens to be an amazing interior designer. We had the best time picking out every special detail to create the perfect room for my future little traveler. We stayed in the blue and neutral world to keep things fresh and airy and then brought in a mix of natural elements like rattan, caning, and wood to create layers, texture, and dimension. Then for extra coziness and playtime practicality, we went with a soft, plush rug that pulled all the colors together and anchored the room.
There’s definitely a mix of splurges and budget-friendly items in the nursery. We fell in love with a crib that had the caning on the sides and figured since it converts to a toddler bed, we’d be using it for years to come. Then we saved on items like the framed animal prints and waited for sales to purchase his couch, chandelier, and changing table. I actually got the idea for those prints when I saw the ones at Restoration Hardware – those were so expensive, especially for a set of 6, so I was really excited to find some that were so similar and a total bargain from Etsy. These prints tied in perfectly with the animals on the wallpaper without being too busy and they were a perfect fit for the wall above the couch. The couch was a great find from Target – it’s actually outdoor furniture, which is perfect considering how messy things can get with a baby – and the cushions were surprisingly soft and comfortable for the outdoor pricetag. I love having the extra seating in the nursery for my husband or anyone who comes by to visit. Making the room inviting and comfortable was definitely a priority of ours! Aside from all the fun we’d be having in the nursery, we also hoped there would be plenty of sleep happening in there! We went with a custom window treatment with a beautiful woven wood shade to add texture to the room and linen drapes that completed the look and also keep it nice and dark for those coveted long naps!
At my baby shower, rather than bringing cards, all of my friends brought their favorite book and wrote a personal note to Noah inside. It was so special to fill his bookshelf with these books and to read their notes to him each day when we pick a book to read before bedtime. I love how this cozy corner of the room turned out! Noah’s nursery is definitely our happy place! It has a fun, wanderlust vibe while also being a peaceful place for playtime, reading, snuggling, and dreaming about future adventures.
