That “Spring Clean” feeling when everything is fresh and tidy is exhilarating, that is, once it is actually done. However, it can be a bit daunting to reach the mountain top, figuratively, and literally, if you are like us and empty your closet into a giant pile on your bed ?. But before you let the overwhelming feelings settle in, there’s really no right or wrong way to spring clean. You can mimic Marie Kondo’s method and go through every item in your home and wardrobe, or you can focus on one area at a time. Today, we’re sharing 5 simple things that make a big difference in how your home looks and feels. If you want a cleaner home, but don’t have a lot of time or energy to put into it, start with this daily cleaning checklist.
1. Never Go to Bed With Dishes in the Sink
It can always be tempting to want to leave the dishes in the sink for tomorrow’s doing after cooking a homemade meal, and we know it is a task that no one enjoys for a reason! If you do the dishes a little bit at a time as you are cooking, it will leave you with way less than the typical pile of every dish and tool in the kitchen. Plus, waking up and walking out to the kitchen for your morning coffee will be much more enjoyable when you don’t have to stare at last night’s mess ;).
2. Make Your Bed Every Day
This may be one that was on our chore charts as kids, but it is an important to-do even in our adult lives! An unmade bed can make your entire room look messy. Plus, doesn’t it feel great when you can come home from a long day to a clean, made bed? Crawling in it becomes all the more enticing!
3. Have a Place For Everything
Getting creative with storage solutions can actually be a fun task! There are interesting ideas all over the internet and keeping big surfaces clear will be a huge game-changer in the way your home looks and feels. For example, even something as small as a shelf for your mail or peg for your keys so that when it comes time to wipe down surfaces, you can actually do so without having to work around clutter will make a big difference!
4. Clean as You Go
Whether it be putting ingredients away after you’ve used them while prepping dinner, folding the blankets and placing the throw pillows back on the couch after movie night, or hanging a clothing article back up after you’ve tried it on, small steps are easier than big ones and will make the “cleaning” process much less daunting. This might be more of a routine that you will have to teach yourself and those that you live with over time, but it’s worth it!
5. Use Convenient Wipes instead of Sprays
These days, it feels as if there is a convenient on-the-go solution for everything, and we are here for it. For some reason, it sounds much easier to grab a counter wipe and wipe down the kitchen counters after dinner rather than getting out multiple supplies. It is now easy to find ones that will work for your kitchen, stainless steel, glass and bathroom at your local store. It is also super helpful to keep these where you use them! Think about how much more convenient it would be to wipe down the bathroom counter quickly before heading out the door to work if you didn’t have to run to the cleaning storage closet to do so.
