If you don’t have time for what matters, stop doing things that don’t.
Did that make you pause for a second? I hope so. Here’s the thing – we are constantly stimulated everywhere we turn with messages to go after our goals, and try new things. There is nothing inherently wrong with goals, don’t get me wrong. But, there is a common narrative that we need to “keep on keeping on” and push through this or that… So many of us can get caught in this trap. We say “yes” to everything and move forward without much intention as to why we are committing to this appointment, opportunity, or event. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I hope a few of the things I’ve learned can help you with how to prioritize your life.
Let me pose a question:
We say yes to everything in fear of missing out on what’s next, but it takes away from some of what we really need to be focusing on: ourselves, our bodies, our time, our health, our kids and family members, our hearts… Now, as a mom of 4, I’ve learned that so much of what we think we need to be doing and should be doing is really not what is the most essential. It’s extra. It doesn’t matter, even if our egos make us believe that it does. This is where FOMO (the fear of missing out) kicks in. We believe we need to be a part of this or that or else we will miss out – truly!
