Photographer, Bernadette Madden, says, This adorable family home session celebrates the Hickersons and their long awaited newborn baby. Jessica Hickerson is a wedding photographer and now a new mother to her daughter Dylan. She and her husband, Sam, also live with their 2 dogs in their cute quaint cottage in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Not only does this couple make newborn parenting look easy, they are also a creative team. Sam helped with the interior design of their home– mixing modern and contemporary. Natural wood pieces are accented with industrial touches and lighting through out the home. As you walk into the nursery, you are greeted by the cutest wall of split leaf Philodendron! Handmade blankets and coordinating patterned pillows adorn the space. An adorable tiny flamingo aqua bathing suit hangs from a wall bookshelf! You can tell these two were anticipating and preparing for their little baby Dylan!
“When we started designing our baby girl’s nursery, we knew we wanted to keep things minimal and intentional. After all, it’s a tiny room in an 800 sq ft house! We are big beach-lovers and love statement items with a bohemian flair so that guided our overall design choices. So, we started by painting the room white and hanging faux-shiplap on the main wall. We purchased a simple crib and rocking chair. Then, we searched high and low for a tiny dresser, eventually finding a 100 year old one with water damage in a friends garage… we brought it back to life and it fits the space perfectly! A lot of the décor was thrifted or gifted (the mud cloth, pillow, tapestry, wildflower sign, and everything on the shelves.)
The quote on the wood board is one of my favorite details. My entire pregnancy the quote from Alice in Wonderland “Do you suppose she’s a wildflower?” kept running through my mind. The moment we found out we were having a girl, it was like all of our dreams for our future family were coming true. My husband and I always hoped for a little wildflower, a sweet girl with an independent mind and a wild heart. We wanted to raise her to do believe she could do absolutely anything. Our family and friends wanted to celebrate our girl with a shower and my friend made this sign as part of the decor. It was the finishing touch for her nursery.”
So sweet 🙂
