Monique Serra shares, With Spring, comes stormy, yet beautiful and enticing weather. When we began brainstorming ideas for a styled shoot, we wanted something different than a bright and airy romantic bridal session. Instead, we wanted something contradicting and moody, with foreshadowing in colors and style. The elements were against us, and we wondered time and time again if we could all come together to pull of a “stormy” bridal shoot. The day of our session was a typical Oregon day, with 90% chance of rain, thunder, and lightening (it really was a literal storm!). We prepared as best we could: with pop up tents, umbrellas, and plastic bags to cover our equipment; then we just went for it! We were surprised by the random bursts of sunshine, and even more surprised when we were in the middle of a complete hail downpour. Still, every single vendor involved had a good attitude and optimistic outlook on the situation!

What we want people to take away from this shoot is this: It’s ok to be different, and it’s ok when things don’t go exactly as planned. Rather than stress about the things you can’t change (like the weather), fully dive in and embrace it! The best thing about weddings (aside from the marriage, of course), is the fact that there really aren’t any rules. Each wedding is meant to be unique and tailored to the bride and groom, yet we can get stuck in what’s “trendy” or popular at the moment. Break rules, get outside of your comfort zone, and embrace being different!
