If you’re wondering what essentials you need during those first few weeks as a mom, not to worry – I have you covered! I received so many tips and recommendations from my friends that were all so helpful. Every mom is different in their parenting style and sleep deprivation coping mechanism, but I wanted to share 6 items I couldn’t have survived without. If you find this useful, you’ll love my diaper bag must haves too! xoxo Ashley
1. Uppa Baby Bassinet and Stand
There are so many bassinet brands out there… but for us, the Uppa bassinet and stand were a lifesaver! First of all – the pieces are separate. So the bassinet can easily be moved around the house, taken outside, attached to a stroller, etc. Second – it’s light as a feather! And third – it comes with an SPF 50+ sunshade and the mattress cover is machine washable. Win. Win. Win.
2. Owlet
I stumbled across this product when one of my mom friends posted about it, and let me tell you – it has been a lifesaver. This is my first baby, so I definitely felt out of my element the first few weeks. Having a little booty monitoring her heart rate and oxygen level is the only thing that allowed me to sleep during the first month. If her vitals dropped outside of normal range, my phone and base station would have alerted me. Their tag line is “rest assured” and I owe every hour of sleep I got during those first 4 weeks to them!
Ah, the Boppy. If you were anything like me, you knew about the Boppy long before ever getting pregnant… I’ve bought it multiple times off the registries of my pregnant friends. It was one of those items I didn’t even question or research when adding to my registry. And I have to say – it has lived up to it’s hype! We’ve been using the pillow primarily for breastfeeding, but also plan to use it when we introduce bottles, tummy time and sitting up. The newborn lounger has also been a lifesaver – our little lady absolutely loves laying on our back and looking out.
4. Frida Baby
If you don’t know Frida, she’s about to be your new BFF. They offer simple solutions for so many newborn issues! Congestion? NoseFrida. Gas? Windi. Fever? FeverFrida. The list literally goes on and on. I’m telling you – get to know Frida Baby!
As a new mom, I have looooved snapping every moment of my baby girl’s days from, from the first bath to first smile, to her just laying there :). These cards are a cute way to help me remember when all those changes during the first weeks and months happen. And a much easier way to document them then searching for a place to write them down!
6. Bravado Bras
Let’s talk about bras.. because after baby they’re either going to be your best friend or your worst enemy. Thankfully my friends told me about Bravado so this was a nonissue for me – but I’ve heard the horror stories so I want to pass this gem of a tip along! From t-shirt bras, to sleep bras to yoga bras – they’ve got you covered. No wires, breathable materials and easy on/off clips = happy mom and happy baby. Stock up!
7. Loyal Hana
I honestly didn’t give much thought to postpartum clothes. I figured I’d just go right back into my pre-maternity clothes. Wrong! Clothes that are built for baby-bearing bodies and nursing are the only way to go. My favorite brand was Loyal Hana for so many reasons – they’re built for maternity wear and post-maternity wear… so during that transition time after baby they’re clothes that look and fit well. Their clothes also are made for nursing and have hidden zippers on the side. Not to mention they’re maternity clothes that don’t look like maternity clothes. Know what I mean? 🙂 I got so many compliments on how stylish I was right after baby when I wore this jumpsuit… and the reality was it felt like PJ’s! I will be stocking up on even more of their goodies for baby #2.
These picks are awesome! Thank you!
