We both work within the equine industry. I work on the show management side and he is a professional photographer hired by the shows. We met at a show special to my heart called the American Royal Quarter Horse Show in Kansas City, MO. Cody came into the show office looking for the Royal t-shirts. I told him I would show him them since I was going to grab ice cream in the same direction. We introduced ourselves and I brought him back ice cream while he looked at shirts. I like to think I stole his heart with my personality, but it was probably the ice cream! After that, we talked here and there until he FINALLY asked me on a date. The rest is history!
We were on a little vacation in California to see Monterrey, San Francisco and Napa the week he proposed. Cody had told me he needed more photos to use for advertising for his photography business. I agreed to dress up and take photos on the beach one night before we went to a nice dinner. Little did I know there was more to his plan! When we got to the beach I saw two girls (Laura and Rachel) with horses taking photos. I, of course, had to go ask them what they were doing and if I could pet the horses. He knew I had a soft spot for all horses and would want to check them out. The girls claimed their model was late and asked if I would fill in. I said I would love to, and we started taking photos, with Cody offering to help set the horse up and pose me. After a few poses, he had me turn around to face away from the photographers. While I was turned around he got down, pulled the ring out of his boot, and I turned back around to see him on one knee. I was 110% shocked and didn’t see it coming! After the proposal, Laura and Rachel did an engagement session photoshoot and even had champagne, flowers, and desserts on a blanket spread out on the beach. The evening turned out even better when we were able to ride the horses until the sunset. That night was the greatest surprise of my life. Cody knows my heart so well and planned the best engagement I could have ever dreamed about. I can’t wait for the rest of our lives together!
