Nick and I met 4 1/2 years ago in a truly unlikely place. I had just moved to Charleston to pursue law school and had always heard how hard it is to meet men in a city where the women to men ratio is 7:1. My first night out on the town I was definitely not looking to meet anyone as I was just trying to figure out my new home with some new girl friends. Toward the end of the night we had the brilliant and slightly alcohol induced idea to swing by a local hole in the wall karaoke bar. As I approached the bar to order a drink, Nick tapped me on my shoulder to tell me how rude it was of me to “run into him and not apologize for it.” I really didn’t think too much of it, apologized, and got back to my girl friends. About fifteen minutes later, a young lady approached me to let me know that her friend (Nick) was actually a dancer at the local gay bar and was not trying to hit on me when he accused me of being rude. So I started talking to him, and by the end of the night I found myself wishing he wasn’t gay…and as it turns out, he wasn’t. It was all a plot to get me to talk to him. From then on it has felt like a whirlwind. Nick and I moved in together about a year later and then a little more than 3 years later he took me up in a helicopter over Folly Beach, which is one of our favorite places in town, and written in the sand was “Will u marry me?” It was truly the most special day of my life thus far and we are so excited for our big day in September.
