Something about the States’ Southern region lends itself to an extra dose of elegance and romance. Maybe it’s the expansive scenery or the bride’s bouncy curls, but this soft pink and blue Southern wedding captured that Southern essence beautifully. For this shoot, we wanted to present sophisticated details and images as well as bring in a few playful elements. Sweet pink and the serenity of blue go hand in hand. When these Pantone colors were presented as colors of the year, one could understand the appeal of the combination. Yet those of us that are designers and planners knew there would naturally be challenges in regard to keeping the pink and blue elegant and in avoiding the cuteness that’s often associated with baby and child-related events.
What makes this styled shoot successful is that details such as flowers, vintage furniture and antique silver helped to ground the sweetness of the colors. Metallics were present in the paper items and on the wedding cake. This added another more sophisticated element to the color scheme. The striped patterned napkins also brought in an unexpected decor detail. The beauty of this color combination is that you can make it fun. This is apparent in the pink cotton candy. The cotton candy did double duty in the couple’s signature drink and as a sweet bribe for the Flower Girl.
