Creating this inspiration was so fun, and hands on. The inspiration came to me while walking an estate with one of my clients last year. The estate was surrounded by orange groves, which made me think of Southern California back in the late 1800’s and Americana style. I felt like an inspiration like this was something missing from today’s wedding inspirations, which is why I created this Modern Americana inspiration.
To create this timeless and stunning feature, I had to enlist an incredible amount of vendors! Many of the vendors are locals to Los Angeles and Orange County. Designing out each look was very thought out, as I wanted brides to see this look and feel like it was inspirational and achievable. The bride that sees this as inspiration is classy, but approaches things from a modern perspective. (Much like the nuptials between Price Harry and Meghan Markle).
I love the palette; soft slate blue with the accents of orange. Something about it is subtle, classic, and stately. For me, it’s all about balance in color, and I’m truly a less is more type of designer. I wanted the inspiration to have that old world charm, and highlight the architecture and life once lived here in Southern California. To capture the old world charm, I enlisted the venue Rancho Los Cerritos in Long Beach. It’s a hidden gem, that only hosts about 12 weddings a year. The venue is filled with historical artifacts, and keeps to it’s true historical character.
The inspiration was all about creating layers and vignettes, capturing moments seen throughout a wedding; a bridal party, altar design, invitation suite, dessert table, and mint julep bar with a lounge area. Each vignette highlights that balance between history and the modern day. For example, the altar design was a circle archway covered in seasonal greenery and an asymmetrical draping of slate blue chiffon fabric, which was set perfectly with the estate as a backdrop. Another example, is the bridal party’s attire. The bride was dressed as a modern-day Princess in a stunning Galia Lahav dress, which was accented with a gold leaf crown. It seemed quintessential to pair the groom in a classic tuxedo, but with a modern touch, using a fawn colored jacket and matching bow tie.
This is straight out of my dreams!
