Nate and Lesleigh had their sights set on Paris since their wedding day, so five years later they celebrated with a very special Parisian-style anniversary photoshoot that we get to share on our wedding blog! With an incredible photographer, Katie Mitchell Photography, and savvy stylist in Lesleigh herself, the photos turned out beautifully! We melt when we read about this duo’s 5 year road to Paris, and hope you do too!
Here’s their story:
Nate and I initially bonded over our love of travel and desire to experience the world. For our honeymoon we ventured to Greece and Italy and could hardly wait to get back to Europe. With his upcoming residency starting after our return home, we knew we’d need to wait several years before we could make another trip. It was then that we promised each other we’d go to Paris to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary, which of course at the time seemed like an eternity away. Five years later we held up our promise and went to Europe for two weeks, starting in Germany to visit friends, stopping in Prague, and ending in France with time in Paris and Nice. It was exactly what we’d always hoped it’d be! The trip was especially momentous because we were leaving our 1.5 year-old babe at home for the first time. After five years of marriage, two cross-country moves, a move to Alaska, and the birth of our daughter, we knew we owed it to ourselves and our relationship to spend two weeks doing what we do best: traveling, being together just the two of us, and experiencing a new world. This trip brought back so many memories from our honeymoon, which of course made us feel lovingly warm and nostalgic. It provided the perfect opportunity to reconnect as a couple outside of being mama and dada and our increasing professional and home responsibilities. We were able to reflect back on our marriage and look forward to where we want to be in the next five, ten, and twenty+ years.
We wanted to have our maturing and evolving relationship memorialized during this fantastic trip, which is why we chose to have a photoshoot with the incredibly talented Katie Mitchell. We hoped to capture this period in our life in more than just selfie-stick vacation photos because the trip meant so much more to us than merely a vacation. We also viewed it as a form of wedding photos take two, since we couldn’t afford the best photography when we had our wedding. We chose to wear light and neutral tones so the beautiful scenery of Paris would really shine through. I envisioned sporting classic looks that promote a timeless feel and portray our daily style. I think Katie captured us so perfectly! We both agree this photoshoot is one of the highlights of our trip and I am thrilled to have such beautiful images to look back on for years. I am proud to show the photos to our daughter as well and I hope she will glean from them the lessons to take time for one’s self, travel the world, and always, always find time for romance in Paris.
