Brandi & Chris are a poster couple, and their romantic desert engagement session could be on the pages of a magazine. The Popsugar Food host and her soon to be husband took to Joshua Tree for the day with Brandon Kidd Photography. We love these two and can’t wait to see how the rest of their wedding journey plays out!
Hear from Brandi herself on their whirlwind romance, Chris’s creative proposal, and what inspired this gorgeous engagement session…
From the moment Chris and I met, our connection was instant. Sharing many things in common – like both being the oldest children in our family- bonded us immediately. I met his family just a couple weeks after meeting him and I remember feeling so comfortable and at “home” and thinking to myself that he was going to be my husband one day.
We traveled a ton during our 11 month courtship including going snowboarding in Breckenridge, Colorado, attending the Belmont Stakes in New York, going to South by Southwest in Austin, the Life is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, taking an epic trip to Thailand and the Philippines and a romantic trip to Sedona in my home state of Arizona. Last October was the most memorable trip of all. Chris planned a beautiful trip to Tulum, Mexico for us and we stayed at this amazing resort. The very first day of our trip, we were walking on the powder soft white sand headed to snorkel in a cenote when Chris said he wanted to take a photo of us. While he set up his phone I played in the water. Then he ran over and as I got ready to take the pic, he dropped to one knee and proposed! I was in complete shock and couldn’t shut up. I kept saying “Oh my goodness” and asking questions like “When did you get this? Did you ask our parents? Who knows? Did you ask my Dad? Does your Mom know? Does my Mom know?” It was the most incredible feeling in the world.
We spent the rest of that trip completely floating! I was so happy and also beyond excited that Chris went to my close family friend and jewelry designer, Avo Guerboian of Edward Avedis to design my cushion cut rose gold ring. He is so proud of the design they came up with and I love how happy it makes him that I love it too. We were so happy to immediately started wedding planning.
Both of us are thrilled to have Brandon Kidd as our wedding photographer. His work is gorgeous and he has such a great eye for light. When we were choosing where we would take engagement photos and Brandon suggested Joshua Tree, we knew it was the perfect fit. We both think the desert is magical, calming, spiritual and extremely romantic. We wanted our photos to feel carefree and natural and not take away from the beauty of Joshua Tree. Most of the time Brandon wasn’t directing us and instead letting us just be the happy, engaged and in love couple. I think this really allowed us to feel comfortable and like ourselves. One of my favorite photos is when Chris and I were on a huge boulder and I kicked off my shoes and Chris held me. The sun was setting and it was starting to get chilly and Chris started kissing my shoulder and cuddling with me. I remember taking a beat to reflect on how insanely happy and grateful I was in that moment and Chris and I whispered “I love you” to one another. Those photos are some of my favorite memories from that day!
