We’re loving the unique theme and cheeky details of this Steel Magnolias bridal shower on our wedding blog today! Dawn McCoy, of BeautyFrosting, was the creative genius behind it all – making her friend one happy bride-to-be with a party to complement her Southern roots. With petal pink roses and decor, and even a color coordinating rosé, the shower was blushing & bashful.
From Dawn..
Guest of honor, bride-to-be Kelly Valentine, is used to taking care of the hospitality of others, as the General Manager of Dinner Lab Los Angeles – a chef-driven pop up dining company. So, when it came time to celebrate her big day, we wanted to do it with as much love and creativity as she brings into her job, and into the lives of those she loves.
I met Kelly almost two years ago, and her one request was to have a Steel Magnolias-themed shower, to celebrate her southern roots, at my house, “The Cupcake Palace” – which is a pastel haven in the middle of Los Angeles. She asked me this on the first day we met at a charity yard sale I was hosting at my house!
I let the Steel Magnolias theme guide the decor – cupcake toppers with the faces of the Steel Magnolias cast (which Kelly made herself), framed quotes from the movie, blush and bashful pink decor, and even a PINK armadillo cake with red velvet filling from Beverly’s Best, modeled after the armadillo grooms cake in the movie. And, we asked guests to dress in their best southern pastel hues.
In keeping with the both the southern theme – and the southern roots – of the guest of honor and myself, I whipped up my signature Blush & Bashful sherbet punch that I created for the event. A mixture of pineapple juice, lemon lime soda, grenadine and orange sherbet, it was the perfect pink creamy punch for the pinkest of days.
We used my antique glassware and china – much from my grandmother and mother, but also pieces I’ve collected over the years from stores such as HomeGoods and Marshall’s.
As for decor, as it was in the backyard of my home, I wanted to keep it homey, quaint and comfortable. So, I took the inside to the outside, bringing out my pink and white candystriped loveseat and placing it at the head of the table, mismatched dining room chairs and poofs and blankets from World Market, for plentiful seating options. And, Studio Mucci tassel garlands punctuated the affair.
