Whether you are looking to celebrate an anniversary or just get away from the everyday hustle, we’ve found the perfect place nestled in the Colorado clouds. With sweeping views of the plains and Pikes Peak, this hidden gem provides the ideal weekend getaway. We had the chance to visit Cloud Camp at The Broadmoor, located in Colorado Springs near the Southern edge of the Rocky Mountains, and this romantic mountain retreat was about as dreamy as it gets!
Where to Stay:
When we say in the clouds, we literally mean in the clouds! Cloud Camp, part of The Broadmoor Wilderness Experience, sits 9,200 feet atop Cheyenne Mountain. The views during the day are stunning as ever, but when the sun goes down and the stars come out it will truly take your breath away!
By far the most amazing room at Cloud Camp is the Fire Tower Suite – a two-room suite built atop the stone foundation of a historical fire tower. To reach the Fire Tower Suite, you have to climb wooden steps that wind up through the forested hillside, past towering pines and giant boulders. The suite includes an observation room with 360-degree views and a private outdoor hot tub. Imagine stargazing with a bottle of wine while breathing in the fresh Colorado air from a hot tub. Can it get more romantic and relaxing than that? We think not! It’s practically heaven.
What to Eat:
You don’t have to wander far to satisfy your hunger here! Cloud Camp serves three full 1920’s inspired meals per day. The breakfast menu features house made cinnamon rolls, a Denver omelet, and other homemade traditional goodness. Lunch includes gourmet soups and salads along with savory sandwiches. Plus, all of the meals feature vegetables and herbs from Broadmoor Farms!
As if Cloud Camp could get any better, dinner is a full four course meal. After a day filled with high altitude adventuring, you’ll be ready to indulge in each and every classic flavor! Meals are set to certain times and served at a long community table where guests can drink and dine together. So, not only do you get to spend quality time with your S.O., but you also get a chance to meet new people and form friendships with others who are staying on the property.
What to Do:
Every afternoon, you can join the chef for Cooking Club, where you pick up skills and recipes in the kitchen to use back at home. Other activities include hiking, yoga, mule rides, crafts, and archery. There are endless opportunities for unique experiences and picture perfect moments! Our favorite activity by far was relaxing in the serene wilderness swinging in hammocks and unplugging from the digital world. A close second was s’mores by the fire each night. Talk about a major pause and refresh on life!
