What little girl (or girl in general) wouldn’t want a pink flamingo birthday party?! We are personally adding the theme to our list after seeing Cristin, of The Southern Style Guide execute it so well for her daughter’s first birthday. Cristin shared her daughter’s adorable nursery with us a few month’s back as well. It’s clear she has some incredible style. But just wait until you see how she turned her backyard into the perfect tropical paradise for the celebration…
Cristin says, Let’s be honest, first birthdays are really for the parents and not the kids. Since I was really throwing a party for myself for surviving the first year of motherhood I chose a theme that would FINALLY let me buy a giant flamingo float. It looks like a ton of hard work and decorating but really it was some strategic shopping one afternoon, a little bit of set-up time, and a mom, mother-in-law, aunt and grandma group of cooking elves in your corner.
Here’s how she decorated the tables…
First I started with a cheap-o mint tablecloth, made a runner with oversized palm leaves, plopped some pineapples on the table and flanked them with cups filled with flowers. For the place settings I stacked palm plates with pink napkins and flamingo napkins and used solid cutlery. Every place-setting also had a pineapple cup complete with a flamingo straw. Then I placed an inflatable flamingo cup holder at every seat for bottles of water or diet coke. To keep the napkins from flying away I used flamingo rubber duckies. I also decorated the table with mini bubble containers that I bought to use as favors.
