This year our annual celebrations have changed quite a bit – especially when it comes to shelter in place birthday parties. Although the idea of socially distanced birthdays might sound like a bummer at first, there are plenty of ways to make them just as fun! This chic celebration takes a twist on the rainbow and shows us that it’s possible to find joy and light in darker times. When I was coming up with a design concept for my niece’s birthday I really wanted her to continue seeing positivity in the world. So I started thinking of things that she loved and could relate to my message, “RAINBOWS” are her favorite. So I came up with “Chasing Rainbows” because it provides a strong message to always keep positive and see the best in any situation. At the end of every rainbow is a pot of gold a “beautiful lesson that made you stronger.” But of course, we couldn’t keep to the traditional primary color scheme of a rainbow, needed to add a chic spin to it! So we went with muted tones which complemented the modern boho vibe we love.
When I am in need of awesome paper goods, I always visit Ellie and Piper Co.. They offer the best selections. These terrazzo metallic plates were the perfect addition to the tabletop and added that pop of shimmer every little girl loves. The rattan chargers were actually mirrors that I scored in the dollar spot at Target, definitely will be putting these to use for future events…a favorite new item to our inventory. When designing I wanted to bring in the rainbow element very subtly and so I created these DIY yarn rainbows. Creating those rainbows was a labor of love and tons of fun, I had the pleasure of putting them together with my sister and niece. Creative Amme always brings my ideas to life, the rainbow stir-sticks were a dream come true. The rope element was the perfect boho touch to the super modern paper goods.
The balloon installation was the perfect backdrop to the tablescape. When creating I didn’t want to represent the typical arch shape of a rainbow, so layering the colors …..
When thinking of the cake design, I wanted to have a modern boho feel with a rainbow touch. I was inspired by yarn art that had meticulous detail, so I gave the image to Amriel. I would have to say Amriel Cakes nailed my vision while giving the cake her own spin. Her desserts are beautiful to look at and delicious to eat! When you are forced to have a “Shelter in Place” birthday celebration, a #MINNImesh was in order for the littles to have a ball. I love that Mini dip and Mesh Kids Co have paired up to create these fashionable inflatable ball pits that are perfect for any age kiddo to have hours of fun at home. No virus is going to take away our fun.
