To most people, winter means hunkering down inside, staying warm and avoiding harsh weather conditions (looking at you Polar Vortex). However, winter can bring about some magical opportunities for romantic and one-of-a-kind winter dates! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite winter date ideas to enjoy during the freezing temps, whether you are looking for indoor date ideas or outdoor adventures –

1. Hot Tub Boat
A hot tub boat? You say. Is this real? You say. YES – we are happy to report this is a real thing, and officially one of our all time favorite winter date ideas. Rent a boat to cruise around the lakes and rivers of the Pacific Northwest from the comfort of your very own hot tub. It fits up to 6 people, so enjoy a double or triple date, or opt to explore on your own. Bring your own sparkling water and charcuterie spread and enjoy the beautiful views. Sign. Us. Up.
2. SnowCat Tour
If you find yourself near a ski resort this winter, look into whether they offer SnowCat Tours. We’ve experienced them at Mammoth Mountain in California, and a quick google search found similar experiences all over the US – Aspen, New Mexico, Idaho, Vermont and so many more! Most tours start the experience at the main lodge and include an evening/night time ride up the slopes in the famous SnowCat slope groomers. Dinner is served at a destination on the mountain, likely including beautiful views and a winter wonderland ambiance. Can you say romantic?

3. Ice Skating
Even if you don’t live in a cold atmosphere (ahem*Los Angeles*ahem), chances are your city or a neighboring one has an ice skating rink. The Toyota Sports Center in LA has public skate hours, as do most major skate rinks. It may not feel like winter outside, but skate rinks are always warm so it’s a good excuse to bundle up in your scarf and mittens and enjoy a classic winter activity. And any opportunity where holding hands is practically required makes for a fun date!
4. Gondola Ride
Snow capped mountains are best seen from above, and there’s no better way to do that than on a gondola ride! Most mountain areas have gondolas, but you can check out some of the best in the US here. Enjoy 10-15 minutes of peace soaring above scenic landscapes. Check out where your gondola starts and if there’s a stop at the top to plan accordingly – some have restaurants at the top of the mountain, and some start/end in fun village centers of mountain towns. Cute, right?!

5. Fireside Wine and Cheese
A great winter date doesn’t have to be adventurous and extravagant – sometimes simple is best! Especially if it’s too snowy to head outside. Cozy up next to a fireplace with a good bottle of wine, a meat and cheese plate, and the makings for s’mores! An alternative option for warmer areas is to cozy up next to an outdoor fire pit!
