Margaritas with My Señoritas Party for Cinco de Mayo

There’s nothing we love more than a good party… except maybe a good party with a rad theme AND margaritas! Lucky for us, Jen, from Freckles on Fillmore, got together with her best ladies to throw a Margaritas with my senoritas party in honor of Cinco de Mayo. ¡Ay Ay Ay! That’s what you’ll be saying after you see the bright blooms, flirty matching tees, and have a margarita – or two, or three. We mean, you’ll have to try all three recipes Jennifer shares below!

Jen says, Today’s good mood sponsored by margaritas. A Cinco De Mayo, Margaritas with my Senoritas, celebration was in order because this señorita needed a margarita. An evening of girl time, fun and, but of course, margaritas.

I don’t know about you but we love pretty things, and for this particular soiree, were inspired by pretty bright pops of color and elegant decor. The shirt “Margarita’s for my Señorita’s was the main source of inspiration. To bring our party to life, we sprinkled pops of vibrant blooms, beautiful bowls filled with Chips and Guacamole thanks to The Little Market, vibrant signage and menus thanks to Courtnee at Shimmer and Stain. We also incorporated lounge seating full of warm cream fabrics, marble, jute, wicker and gold touches adding the perfect high-end cherry on top. It all paired perfectly with our colorful cocktails.

When it comes to a Cinco de Mayo celebration tequila and mezcal are obviously in order and one the of the greatest gifts the Mexican culture has bestowed upon us Americans, is our namesake, the Margarita. There are so many unique recipes, so my friends and I try to step outside of our comfort zone and try new ones. Serving on the rocks is the easiest and most popular margarita these days. Here are our drinks of choice:

Señorita Mezcal Margarita

“HabaVod Not-So-Chata”

Ingredients: Makes about 1 quart Horchata ( 10 cocktails)
1.5 oz Hanson’s of Sonoma Habanero Vodka Horchata
3 oz Horchata (recipe below)

Instructions:
Combine both ingredients with ice in a shaker. Shake and Strain into
Garnish: Shaved Cinnamon and Cinnamon Stick

Homemade Horchata:

Ingredients
6 tablespoons long-grain white rice
1 1/4 cup whole blanched almonds
1 cinnamon stick
Large pinch of kosher salt
1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

The night before serving. Add white long-grain rice to a spice grinder and pulverize. Transfer pulverized rice to a large bowl, and then add the almonds and cinnamon stick. Stir ingredients in 2 1/2 cups hot water, cover, and let stand for at least 6 hours. (Enjoy a cold beer why you wait).

Next: Waking up the next morning after finishing off the 12-pk you bought the night before, remove the cinnamon sticks and discard. Puree the mixture in a blender until it’s no longer gritty (about 4 minutes). Add 2 cups water and blend for a few seconds more.

Next, set a large sieve lined with 3 layers of dampened cheesecloth over a medium bowl.
Pour the almond rice mixture in, a little at a time, stirring gently to help the liquid pass through, and then gather up the corners of the cheesecloth and squeeze out all the liquid.
Stir sugar and salt into the strained liquid. Cover and refrigerate. Stir before pouring into making cocktails.
