This post is in partnership with BEHR® and POPSUGAR. Thanks for supporting Inspired by This!
Be it on Pinterest, Instagram, or your favorite home decor blogs, we are constantly flooded with images of beautifully designed homes and offices. If you’re like us, you are re-pinning, saving, and bookmarking these aspirational photos all the time. However, we often feel overwhelmed when it comes time to make our ‘dream room’ a reality. So, we partnered with BEHR® to show you how to get a designer look at home – and do so simply and affordably – with a fresh coat of paint!
We found that when narrowing down our “top 10” inspirational designs, we could pinpoint the color palettes we loved. Plus, you can really tell how much difference a paint color makes! Whether it covers the entire room, a bookcase, or just one wall, paint offers statement-making power.
To start, we thought we would share the particular images that inspired our color choice:

Be it a bedroom or a home office, this soft grey creates a calm, neutral, and elevated environment. Don’t you agree? To match the inspiration we loved, we chose BEHR MARQUEE® Interior Paint & Primer in Etched Glass with a matte finish. Picking out the color was actually easy thanks to the ability to preview the color in a room online, save it to your account, and purchase samples.
We then coated the entire office in the pretty shade – with just one coat, might we add! The paint and primer in one offers awesome coverage with just one coat, which makes painting a room a cinch. And therefore achieving the designer look all the easier. We are also loving the way paint with a matte finish looks, particularly in photos. Because we conduct quite a few photo shoots around here, we specifically chose it so we wouldn’t have to worry about too much glare or shine in a background.
As you can see, we have a clean, beachy vibe happening in the office so we really wanted a paint color that still allowed our previous decor to work in the space but that was also fresh and modern. This is another thing to keep in mind when picking both your favorite inspirational photos and your paint color; what do you already own? And, what are you willing to add to the room? If all of your decor is bohemian, you probably shouldn’t pull inspiration from rooms that are sleek & modern or classic country, unless you are re-designing the entire space.
For us, we’re all about minimal effort, big transformation. So, we kept the existing office furniture and just updated a few accessories. Before, the space looked purely functional with plain white walls and a typical desk and bookcase. Now, we love the way the black & white furniture stands out against the Etched Glass walls instead of blending in. When paired with the green palm-print curtains and patterned carpet, it’s an office that feels both quiet and yet booming with inspiration – exactly what you need in a workspace, right?!
