Tell us a little about One Sweet Day in May and your inspiration for this space!
One Sweet Day in May is a boutique style floral design company specializing in weddings and events here in Virginia and beyond! My office was inspired by rebranding with Ashlee Proffitt. My brand is personalized to me and I streamlined my office with it. It’s bright with soft blushes and grey walls. I wanted everything about my business to be grown up girly and my office reflects that. The couch was a birthday gift from my husband last year and that set the stage for everything else. I keep motivational prints displayed and added a few wedding photos from our wedding last September. That pink fluffy rug was the icing on the cake and the piece that brought it all together.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
Every day is different! and that’s what I love about my job. My Monday-Friday is night and day different than an actual event day, but during the week you will find me at my desk with a skinny vanilla latte in hand. I start the day with a Pure Barre class, then jump right into emails and tackling my top 3 priorities for the day. This usually consists of creating a design proposal for a bride and placing floral orders for upcoming events. During wedding weeks things switch up a bit. Floral orders arrive on Wednesdays and Thursdays and then it’s all systems go to create a beautiful event. The work is over once set up is complete and my bride is smiling from ear to ear. Unless there is another wedding, Sundays are reserved for my little family.
What is the main use of your space?
While all the designing and constructing of florals happens in my kitchen, my office is where all the ideas happen. It’s where I start my day and where the “work” side of my job happens. All the bouquet dreaming, tablescape planning, and floral recipe making takes place here. It’s where I invite my fellow boss ladies to chat over coffee and get inspired for new projects. I think it’s so important for any woman to have a place in her home that can be her sanctuary. Whether it’s a whole room or a corner with a fancy chair. Us ladies need a space we can call our own, where we can decorate to our liking, play the music we love, and be inspired. The One Sweet Office is my favorite room in our home for this very reason.
What is your favorite part of your office and why?
My window. My office gets the best natural light in the whole house. It’s so lovely sitting at my desk with the sun pouring in. I also have the best view of the leaves changing in the fall and in the winter I just love curling up with my laptop on the couch watching the snow fall.
What is the Best Business advice you’ve ever received?
“Hustle, remain unique, and embrace even the littlest victories that come your way. Most importantly, remember why you started.” I have this hanging on my wall and I read it all the time.
