Hi! I’m Leila Lewis owner of Be Inspired PR and Inspired By This and I’m back again with some business advice on the blog today. It can be frustrating being in a business where you’re a creative, a doer, a giver and one who wants to do right by all. It’s common to stress out about growing and being successful, but also about making sure everyone is happy along the way.
The reality is:
A) We can’t do it all!
But more importantly….
B) We can’t make everyone happy
I’ve learned in the last 12 years of my career that I will always follow my truth and be good to others while doing it. I buckle down and work hard, make it my priority to treat others with respect, but I keep focusing on what is best for my business. Many of you try to do what’s best for everyone else. While it’s thoughtful, the selflessness may be hurting your business.
You brush off the way someone treats you, yet you haven’t quite learned the lesson on how to stop getting stepped on. To you, your NO may feel like failure and disappointment, when in reality always opting for the YES (when it really should be a NO) does more damage than good.
Next time you are faced with a situation where you are doing your best, but ultimately someone else is not happy consider this:
1)You Can’t Please Everyone and That’s Okay.
Once you have accepted that, it softens the blow a bit. Nothing hurts like a bruised heart, but toughen up and get the courage to forge forward.
2) Let It Go.
No matter what others say or think of you, you know you did everything you could. Until you learn to accept your success and not focus on the shortcomings, you won’t be able to grow.
3) Don’t Internalize.
Their reaction is their choice, how you choose to react is yours. You don’t know if they are having family or health problems, depression, or are taking something out on you as a result of something or someone else. Everyone is fighting their own battle. Don’t take it too personally. I know it’s much easier said then done.
4) Not Everyone is Going to Like You and That’s Ok.
It’s the worst feeling thinking of someone who doesn’t like you. (People pleaser’s – put your hands up!!) But the reality is, many of our successes are not because of the ones that don’t like you, ignore or dismiss you, but the ones who support you, highlight you and send you business.
5) Making Money Will Mean Blazing Your Own Trail.
If all you do is worry about everyone else, it takes away from you. It takes the same effort to stress as it does to be positive about what successes you have accomplished. Being good to others and focusing on growth will bring you the money. Doing the opposite will not only deplete you emotionally, but will affect you financially too.
Bottom line, you can’t please them all and you don’t have to.

Loved this, thank you for sharing..We focus too much on what other people think and that doesn’t let you move forward.
These are great tips…It can be hard not trying to please everyone, but like Leila said, it prevents us and our businesses from growing.
