Calligraphy Studio Tour- Inspired By This

Two things we love are on our business blog today – Calligraphy by Laura Hooper and a studio tour. Oh and wine – ok three things we love! The collaborative design studio hosted by Gather Events, Lupa and Pepi, Whaling Club, Marie Buck Photography and Laura Hooper was the location for Laura’s intermediate calligraphy class held in LA. We are getting a peek inside this impeccably designed co-op space and look into the workshop. With mimosas, One Hope wine, and a work station all their own, we know guests enjoyed themselves and the inspiring atmosphere! Here’s what Robin and Sarah of Gather Events filled us in on about the event and their shared space:

In addition to work stations, storage and production space, we have dedicated a portion of the studio to a “workshop” space where vendors can come in and host events/classrooms/demonstrations, etc. We wanted to get the word out about our new workshop space…and at the same time Laura Hooper was looking for a place to host her first-ever intermediate calligraphy class. DONE AND DONE! We and our office mates banded together to create a beautiful and inspiring event space for the workshop attendees. We added in a little One Hope Wine, (because why wouldn’t we?) and before we knew it, we had a full-blown educational/adorable party on our hands.

Building on what attendees had learned in our Beginner’s workshops, our Intermediate class moved into mixing inks, writing in colors/on colored paper and flourishing. After mixing up a few colors using gouache paint, the calligraphers worked on a variety of words to fine tune connecting letters and getting a bit fancier with their flourishes. Finally each student worked on personal prints with wording of their choice to take home along with their new gouache paints, mixing jars, nibs, totes and some treats from our partners!
